I have seen that generating ta keys is not necessary, but I don't want to leave it out just because of this. I know Homebrew has an OpenVPN package, but I don't want to install without knowing if it'll conflict with the app I've downloaded from the OpenVPN website, or if there are differences between using the Homebrew version and the download-from-the-official-website version.

Compile openvpn connect for mac how to#
I've searched specifically for instructions for how to do this on Mac and there are no references to this. I looked over the HowTo I was using (the 2nd link) and it gives instructions for installing easyrsa, but nothing about needing to install an openvpn binary. I couldn't find an executable named just openvpn. OpenVPN is not in my path, so I looked into the app package at /Applications/OpenVPN Connect/OpenVPN Connect.app/. I'm running into one issue with the certificates and keys, at this line: I'm using the the main OpenVPN HowTo for most of what I'm doing, and for generating keys on my Mac, I'm using this HowTo for easyrsa, since it seems to work a bit differently on Mac. I know I could do all the certificate and key work on my Debian VPS via ssh, but I'd rather keep my certificate info off the server and on a system that's not a client or sever. I've downloaded and installed OpenVPN Connect on my Mac.

That includes generating certificates and keys. While that machine, itself, is not going to be a client (my pfSense firewall will be the client on my LAN), I'm using it to do all my work. I'm a first timer with any VPN and I'm setting up OpenVPN on a VPS so I can connect to my LAN through my CGNAT internet connection.
